Hello Assaulted Fish,   Are you interested in performing for a very worthy cause? Because we’ve got a great opportunity to offer you!   We are the Asian Canadian Culture Organization (ACCO), of UBC. We’re organizing our first ever charitable fundraiser, A-JAM for our upcoming annual conference on Asian Canadian issues and identity. This event will feature a range of Asian acts and performances so that attendees can experience the dynamic nature and diversity of Asian Canadian culture – as well to ensure that everyone has an awesome time.   A-JAM will take place 6:30PM-9:30PM; Friday, February 20, 2009 in the Student Union Building (SUB) Ballroom, at the University of British Columbia.   This will be an unpaid gig, but it will be a chance for performers to gain some exposure in the Vancouver community. Half of all proceeds will go to charity supporting the education and well-being of children living with AIDS in China. You can also take this opportunity to network (over 120 students, faculty, alumni and community representatives anticipated to attend), enjoy other excellent performances (tickets would otherwise be $15 a pop), and join us in celebrating Asian Culture in Canada!!!     If you are interested in performing, please contact the following parties by January 23rd for more information:   Chair of fundraiser – Kristina Chang at kristina.chang@live.ca General enquiries – info@ubcacco.com     We look forward to working together with you!       About Us
Founded by students from the University of British Columbia, the Asian Canadian Cultural Organization (ACCO) is a non-profit student collective dedicated to generating greater awareness of Pan-Asian Canadian issues through campus and community outreach. Students at UBC have roots in numerous Asian countries and represent a diversity of cultures also found across the city of Vancouver. ACCO seeks to involve both UBC students and the local community in campus activities as a means of encouraging youth consciousness and participation in civic matters.   Our members actively promote the arts, the literature and the history that affect all Canadians. Our mandate is to develop a safe space at UBC by challenging stereotypes and other social barriers on and off campus. ACCO's main objectives include celebrating the richness of Asian Canadian history through academic dialogue and social outreach, while promoting public consciousness.
